1/2 bathroom is FINISHED!

The ½ bathroom is officially DONE! This is a tiny space, but it took the longest to complete.  We got used to using our other bathrooms and since it’s away from everything else, we left it alone for a while.
 I’m so happy with how it turned out though – I’m in love with it!!
 Mirror - Home Depot
Vanity Light - Shades of Light
Pedestal Sink - Home Depot
faucet - Amazon
Tile - Lowe's

Half Bathroom Update & Inspiration

Remember when I told ya’ll we had gutted our ½ bath? Yeah, it’s been a while – as in almost 6 months since I last posted about it! We are finally going to start on this little space in our house.  It has been sitting for way too long.  Last night we bought new tile and all of the paint, so we are committed!

We are definitely going to add the wood plank wall, paint it gray, then paint it white and scuff it up a bit so the gray shows through.  Here’s an example:
Other walls will be mint green and trim will be white.  We decided on some gray 12x12 square tiles for the floor.
Mark Twain Gray Brick // Ultra Green // Gray Tile

 We still have a few items on our list we need to pick up before we can definitely start:
Wood planks
Wood glue
Grout & tools
New toilet & sink (both will be white)
Mirror
Light fixture
Decorations

Head on over to my Pinterest ½ bath board, so you can take a look at some of my inspirations for this little room!  Stay tuned!

New House Project - Half Bathroom

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen that we've been working on another little house project!  {If you don’t follow, you should. You’ll see a lot of cute little girls. You've been warned.}
The ½ bathroom off of our utility room needs some serious lovin’.  Take a look at the before pictures – the wallpaper was ridiculous and the vanity took up so much room in there.
Daniel and I started taking down the wallpaper by using our clothes steamer ;) It totally worked for the top layer.  There was still some left on the wall, so we got out a spray bottle and filled it with 1/3 water & 2/3 fabric softener. Worked like a charm. It scraped the rest of the paper right off the wall.
I then talked Daniel into pulling up the hardwood in there, so we could put new flooring down.  I wanted to be able to start from an empty room, so we could do whatever we wanted.  We've already decided what to do with the walls, although I need to decide on a color.  We are going to wait to take a trip to the tile shop and decide on a new floor then.

Stay tuned for more updates on Instagram and then the final result!!

Girls' Play Room Inspiration

I’ve been itching to make-over the girls playroom.  It’s one of the last rooms upstairs that needs to be done and with a third girl on the way, I know there will just be more “stuff” in our future!  Right now we pretty much have everything neatly organized along each of the walls, rug, and a small table in the middle of the room.
I still want good storage for everything, but I also want some fun focal areas.  Like a dress-up area, baby area, dollhouse area, school area, kitchen area, and music area.  All of that in one little room!  I want a fun color on the wall and want to definitely include a chalk/magnetic board that we will frame in.
Hadleigh's already put her order in for a pink room, but I'm not sold. We have the slanted ceilings and then white wains-coating covering the walls themselves.  We will keep the wains-coating, but want color above...yellow maybe?  She would love this:

Here are a few pictures I've added to my "Girls Playroom" board on Pinterest:

Do you have any other fun ideas?

Home Office {Reveal}

I’m finally getting to post the final reveal of Daniel’s office! He works in there every day and it definitely keeps him motivated to get his work and school work finished. To top it off, we both love how it turned out.  Double success!  We still have one side of the wall area to finish – we are actively looking for a leather over-sized chair/love-seat to put over there.  We haven’t found one we love, so the search continues.
We still need to find a few things to hang on the wall, but I didn't want to drag this out even longer!
To look back on how we got to the chevron wall - check out our how-to here

Rug: We had from our 1st house from Home Depot

Bookshelf decorations: A mixture of Target, Hobby Lobby, and a Local Antique Store

Chevron Accent Wall {How-To}

Our weekend wasn't extravagant, but it was definitely productive!  We've been in our house almost a year and a half and Daniel’s home office has sat empty.  He works from home, so we knew it was next on our list after we finished the kitchen.  He really needs (and deserves) a nice place to work especially since he currently is working on the couch in our sitting room.  J
Here is what we started with:

We wanted to do something fun on one of the walls, just to bring some contrast to the room.  Chevron immediately came to mind when we decided to do some sort of pattern.  We had NO clue where to start, so we googled.  We watched a few videos to get an idea of how to start, and then rolled with it.

You’ll need:
Chalk
Level
Measuring Tape
Frog Tape or Painters Tape

First, we measured the wall horizontally.  Ours measured 185.  Then, we divided that by 2 to get 92.5 -make a chalk mark at the 92.5.  Then we decided that we wanted our “boxes” to be about 8.5 inches tall  & wide.  I don’t really remember how we came up with that number (oops), but I think it was because it covered the area above the window.  We knew that small area would be the more difficult to tape through.  From the mark at 92.5”, we made a mark every 8.5”.  After we did the right side, we did the exact same thing on the left.  Then we drew the lines from the marks with a level (vertical lines).
Then measure the wall vertically.  Divide by 2 and make a mark in the middle of the wall.  From there, every 8.5” we made marks with the chalk and then drew the lines (using a level) going horizontally across the wall. WHEW!  This is what we ended up with: That’s a pretty impressive grid huh?!

Time to tape!  We used frog tape, to see what it was all about.  Let me tell you, we loved it!  We decided we were going to tape at every horizontal line and I was going to make the zigzags every 2 boxes. For example, I started, went down and over 2 boxes and then took it back up and over 2 boxes.  Repeat all the way across your wall. For every.single.line. you made J I told ya’ll it was tedious!

From here, things were a little easier!  We picked every other section to paint the lighter color brown/tan.  Once finished we removed the tape.  Here you will still see some of the chalk marks we made that were hiding underneath the tape.  It wipes right off with a wet paper towel.

I promised you guys a picture less chalk marks.

Stay tuned to see how we decorate the room! We are ordering furniture tonight.  Daniel might have to share this little home office once we’re finished cause I’m starting to get attached.

Side-by-Side Comparison

So, my awesome hubby mentioned that my previous post on our kitchen reveal would have been way better had I put side-by-side comparison pictures together for everyone to see (instead of clicking on the links) Where was he before I published?!  Maybe he has just nominated himself to be my proof reader before each post.  Congrats babe!

Here’s his advice at work!

Nook Progress

Kitchen/Nook/Sunken Room Before - See here
Sunken Sitting Room Progress/Reveal - See here

TEASER ALERT!

I thought I was going to just do one post for the nook and kitchen reveal, but I decided to break it in two.  Lucky for you guys, you get to wait a little longer for the kitchen part.  Saving the best for last!

We actually didn’t do too much in the nook. Other than painting the walls gray (same as the sunken room), it was just art work, a new table cloth & rug, and upgraded stools.  Easy peasy.

So Here is a before picture:

Looking back at those yellow walls makes me cringe! Oh my! It looks so much better!

And the after: {My photography skills aren't the greatest, nor is my camera.  Here is my public apology for this entire blogs pictures.}

We love the way it turned out.  Looking at the after picture doesn't really give me a "WOW" factor.  It needs something else, I just don't know what.  Any ideas?!?! (Seriously, help me out here)
The rug is from Lowe's and the table cloth is from Target (where else?!).  We already had the stools from our first house, but they were black.  We had originally thought to paint them red, but once we had the kitchen painted, we wanted to bring in another accent color.  Enter Teal.  Love this color and I know it's trendy right now. I.do.not.care.  Daniel spray painted those suckers one night - and boom! There they sit looking lovely.

And just to give me the pleasure of "checking things off my list"....
I'm still in search for the perfect corner cabinet, which I'm starting to think doesn't exist! It may be years, but one day I will have corner cabinet pictures to show you!

Sunken Sitting Room Progress

To see the first post go here

This renovation has taken so long.  We really didn't think it would take this long, considering we weren't tearing any walls down or anything. But, what do we know?! We are so close, I figured I owed an update.I still have to organize pictures from the kitchen and really decide how I want to update it, so I'm starting with our sunken sitting room.

The room really just needed some TLC and to get rid of that awful yellow!  Let's start with the before picture:

 Nothing to jump up and down about for sure.  We left it empty for over a year because we didn't exactly know what to do with it at first.  We thought rattan furniture would look great - and then call it our sun room.  But it didn't feel like a sun room to us,  We decided we would just treat it as another living room / sitting room.  Which works, because there's a direct line of sight from the kitchen into this room.  I know I'll love it even more when there's a TV hung on the wall and I can look into the room at the girls easily from the kitchen.

Here is what it looks like today:  Still a work in progress!

We love it so far! First, a few close ups of the furniture:

We originally looked at Arhaus Furniture, and really loved a couch there.  We didn't want to cough up $2,000 just for the couch, so we continued to look.  The next day we happened to go to Rooms To-Go and found the exact same couch for about $800! Sold!

We wanted a rug with a pattern, but we decided on something more neutral since the chairs have such a bold pattern in them.  We also knew we wanted to decorate with colors and trinkets, so going neutral was the best decision.

We were lucky to find this gem.  It had all of the colors and the look we were going for in this room.  My hubby has a good eye :)

This is hanging on the wall next to the doors going onto our deck.  We have to find a few more trinkets to put on the shelves, but we're doing well! 3 days ago, this was empty!  We still have a side table and coffee table to get, as well as, a TV and some other decorative objects.  Stay tuned for the final result! {Hopefully it won't be too far down the road}

Couch & Chairs: Rooms To-Go
Rug: Lowe's $64
Buffet: Rooms To-Go but it was an old RoomStore piece
Lamps: Lowe's
Wooden Wall Cube: Arhaus Furniture
Trinkets in the Wall Cube: Stuff we already had/Hobby Lobby/Michaels
